Focus and Scope
This journal publishes submissions on health informatics that relate to developing countries. The submissions can be either articles, letters, or webcasts/podcasts. The objective of this journal is to share and promote academic knowledge in the field. One of its aims is also to encourage writers from developing countries to contribute their writings.

Editorial
Articles
This section will include articles. The articles can either be research articles or non-research article. Abstracts are required for all articles, but must not exceed 150 words in length.
Letters
This section includes letters written by readers and can be either their views or responses to published articles.
Webcast/Podcast
Authors are welcome to submit their contributions as webcasts or podcasts.
Peer Review Process
This is a peer-reviewed journal so all submissions to the journal will undergo a process of review. However a decision is made on the article within four weeks and as soon as a submission has been accepted, it is published online in the current section. So there is no delay of waiting until the publishing date.
Review process:
1. Upon submission to JHIDC, one of its main editors* will examine the submission to decide if it will be considered for publication by checking whether it is in line with the vision/aims/scope of the journal and to assess whether it is ready to be sent for a formal review. [Usually within 1 week.]
2. When ready to be sent for formal review, the submission will be sent to two reviewers.
3. The review process is blinded and the review will be based on the criteria listed below. [Results due within 3 weeks of submission.]
4. Review results are to either accept the article as it is, accept it with changes, or to not accept it.
*Main editors are the Editor-in-Chief and the associate editors.

Publication Frequency
This journal is published semiannually (every 6 months). However, journal items that have been accepted will be published as soon as they are ready, by adding them to the Current section of the journal.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
Archiving
This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...
Free Publishing & Access Policy
The two guiding principles of this journal are (1) the philosophy of not-for-profit and (2) the objective of supporting and aiding developing countries in publishing information on health informatics. In view of this, neither authors nor readers are charged anything for publishing in this journal or accessing the articles in it. However, in order to make submission or to download full-text, authors/readers will be asked to register with the journal.
